Today, I’d like to talk about my 100-day commitment. Now, it’s the 16th day. Yesterday, I launched out on a new task, which is gonna help me significantly improve my speech. I call it “meditations on grammar.” Here is what I do. Before starting off, I focus on the goal of maintaining excellent grammar throughout my entire speech. Usually, I speak very fast; my thoughts run far ahead of my words. Now, I slow down and wait for 5, 10 or 20 seconds, if necessary, looking for the best grammatical expression. In other words, I think carefully about whether a certain word or expression fits in, before saying it. In the beginning, it goes very slowly and often feels unnatural, but after a couple of minutes, I get used to it. It seems that one of the reasons why nobody pays attention to my videos is that it’s almost impossible to get what I’m talking about there. To me, it’s clear. Hence, I don’t have problems with understanding myself while I’m talking. There is usually no gap between my words and intentions. However, when someone watches my videos, they probably find them incomprehensible, since ultimately I don’t make these videos for the public. Why should anybody spend their time on the internet listening to a man who talks about his experience in studying English when his English sounds awkward and he makes many mistakes in his speech? If I learn how to make my speech sound good and if I get rid of mistakes—if I learn to speak slowly and elegantly—my channel is gonna go viral. No matter what I’m gonna say. If my English is perfect, my channel is gonna blow up. There are almost a thousand videos where I struggle with myself, showing an unprecedented level of determination and self-overcoming.
