When dreamers reaction is a clue

Sometimes a dreamer’s reaction to their own dream is by itself the interpretation of the dream. Let’s look at the following three examples.

1) Sarah has repetitive dreams about aggressive fighting cats. When she is presented with an idea that these cats might represent certain aspects of her own personality (or the way she perceives her external environment), then her reaction to this suggestion provides an accurate example of the “cat’s traits” in action.

What can we do in such cases, when the dreamer insists on getting advice about her dream, but gets upset about the message?

As a counsellor, I may take a long route of asking questions and allowing the dreamer to find her own answers. But it may take hours and hours of communication and still not get there. Many people who are seeking counselling are looking for a quick fix of their problem (which is either impossible or a short-term solution, because every real change requires a personal Transformation that generates necessary changes on the metaphysical level).

Perhaps providing the dreamer with some useful quotes (like the following one from Q’uo*) may serve as a hint to look within instead of without: “It is to be remembered in analyzing dreams that a principle this instrument has learned from psychology is true. That is: each character in your dream is an aspect of yourself. This is a very large key to the analysis of many dreams.”

Though, honesty and courage to look at the unpleasant aspects of Self are quite rare assets these days. And when someone is only at the beginning of doing their inner-work, their dreams will keep pointing at these uncomfortable aspects of personality as the first priority to deal with. Because all these unloving & unloved parts of Self are the areas in the dreamer’s energy field where the free flow of universal energy of Love is blocked and it needs urgent restoring and healing.

Eliminating an intermediary (counsellor/interpreter) between the dreamer and their dreams would make the challenge of facing unpleasant truth about oneself much easier. It is normal – no one wants to share their personal and often embarrassing secrets with others. So, what it means is that learning the language of their dreams and knowing their own personal symbolism would be the best strategy for any dreamer who is willing to receive divine guidance, but struggling with the feeling of shame when others discover uncomfortable parts of their life or personality.

2) Nick likes to practice so-called “lucid dreaming”. In one of his lucid dreams he finds a lake with clear water and golden fish. But when he comes closer to the lake and tries to see his own reflection in the water, he doesn’t see anything.

Nick has a good recall of this dream, he is able to describe it in detail, but the only idea that he gets from this dreaming experience is that the lake in his dream is very mysterious: it doesn’t have any reflection and this is because of… (then comes some theory regarding the qualities of different astral planes, objects, entities etc.)

This is a typical and very unfortunate situation that exists in the numerous “lucid dreaming” communities: a lot of dreamers get mesmerised by their astral experiences so much that they take them literally without trying to find the hidden message behind symbolic decorations of their dreams.

Let’s have a deeper look at Nick’s dream. It demonstrated that the dreamer tried to look into the clear waters of his subconscious(represented by the lake in the lucid/clear view), but he failed to see the very essence of this experience – his own reflection, or in other words, he didn’t see the representation of his life, of his inner world in this dream, he’s got nothing about himself to reflect on.

Is there anything helpful that can be done in cases like that? Usually it depends on the length of time that a lucid dreamer has spent chasing chimeras in their fruitless astral experiences. Of course, using dreams purely for entertainment is not a sin, but it’s definitely a sad loss of great opportunity for receiving divine guidance.

The following quotes from Ra can illustrate these numerous typical situations:

“You may, with some fruitfulness, consider the possibilities of moonlight… The moonlight, then, offers either a true picture seen in shadow or chimera and falsity. The power of falsity is deep as is the power to discern truth from shadow.”

“The progress chosen by many adepts becomes a confused path as each adept attempts to use the Catalyst of the Spirit. Few there are which are successful in grasping the light of the sun. By far, the majority of adepts remain groping in the moonlight and, as we have said, this light can deceive as well as uncover hidden mystery.”

So, basically when an adept had enough of this “groping in the moonlight” and finally is ready to approach their dreams differently, aiming at the personal development and spiritual growth (which usually means changing their focus from ambitious other-worldly ideas to very practical and mundane realities of their own world), then it’s just the matter of learning symbolic language of their dreams.

One great advantage that lucid dreamers acquire over time is that they train themselves to remember their dreams. So, as soon as they start decoding the symbolism of the dream characters and events, they can get a lot of truly valuable clues and insights. The only task would be to start applying this knowledge to their everyday life, transforming themselves and therefore changing their life.

3) Alice is familiar with both: lucid dreaming and the symbolic language of her dreams. She has a dream where she has to pass through some unpleasant crowded places. She has to collect seeds (wheat and grass) and bring them to the place where they get treated by the fire. Fire will turn the grass seeds into gold and she can use this gold to escape some sort of an apocalyptic scenario. But the amount of seeds she brings is not enough for producing gold to save her life.

The interpretation that Alice gives to her own dream is actually explaining why she doesn’t have enough seeds. Her approach to this dream is quite typical, this is why this example is worth mentioning: she thinks that this dream is not about her own inner world (or the way she perceives her external environment). Instead, she concludes that this scenario speaks about the situation in the world in general (pandemic, war and upcoming hunger and cold weather).

As we know, it’s possible to get important world-scale prophecies through the dreams, but such occurrences are quite rare and so special, that they need to be addressed with certain care. I wrote extensively about recognising prophetic-literal and symbolic dreams, so I won’t be repeating this material here. Perhaps it’s enough to provide the following quote from Q’uo where they speak about a relative rarity of clear/literal prophetic dreams vs. “usual” symbolic precognitive dreams: “Yet there are other types of dreams. There is the prophetic dream. This is caused by a sensitive instrument’s picking up the simultaneous time in the future—which is actually simultaneous with right now—when something usually disastrous may happen. If it is a very clear dream, do not be surprised if it comes true. This is not a particularly common occurrence but is common enough to be mentioned. Also to be mentioned in this regard, with more interest, is that sort of clear dream which prophesizes in a parable or extended metaphor concerning choices to be made in the near future. These are dreams greatly to be valued and carefully to be studied.”

Of course, it’s up to the dreamer to decide if her vision is literal/prophetic and “speaking to a hungry world” (as Ra would say), but at least for the sake of this example I will assure that Alice’s dream is notably symbolic: it borrows its metaphor from our collective unconscious where seeds, weeds, alchemy of transmuting into gold and salvation are very common “archetypal” symbols (archetypal in the Jungian terms).

So, the scenario of this dream needs, first of all, proper decoding, and secondly, finding its correlation with the inner world of the dreamer. It’s mostly the lack of the latter step that prevented Alice from seeing the reason why she is not collecting enough seeds for an alchemical transformational process that can “save her” (or help her to ascend to the next stage of evolution).

Observant reader will see what I mean – the very reaction of Alice to her dream gives a clue about her lack of collected seeds. During her dreaming experience Alice goes through some uncomfortable places that represent unpleasant parts of her inner world and/or of her life. Those are the areas for collecting material (“seeds”) that will help her to grow and to transform, but she ignores this information and prefers to view the uncomfortable scenes as a presentation of the outside world.

Being an experienced dream interpreter, Alice probably feels that this superficial approach to her dream is inefficient, but she might need more dreams with the same message in order to become ready for performing the work that her Higher Self is requesting from her to do.

Dreams always provide us with special guidance that we are able to follow at any particular stage of life. That’s their beauty and uniqueness of being a custom-made tool for every individual human being who is on the path of personal development, spiritual growth and ascension.
