Department of Happiness

“Democracy”, “human rights”, “freedoms”, etc. are not the end – they are only the means to an end. And this “end” is happiness. Genuine human happiness.

It is commonly believed that to be genuinely happy, one must have freedom to satisfy one’s wants (desires). This is not the case because human wants/desires are unlimited and therefore can not be satisfied. Hence the pursuit of happiness by satisfy one’s wants is an exercise in futility.

In reality, happiness is achieved only when the individual in question satisfies his or her genuine aggregate needs – financial, functional, emotional and spiritual. Hence, genuine freedom is freedom to identify and satisfy one’s aggregate needs.

Very few (if any) individuals are capable of identifying their genuine needs – thousands and thousands of books, videos, Web resources on this issue prove this fact beyond the reasonable doubt.

Consequently, the primary (core) government function at every level – from a tiny village to the European Union – is to help its constituents identify and satisfy their genuine aggregate needs.

Either directly – by providing the corresponding government services – or indirectly (creating the proper environment for these needs to be satisfied by businesses, non-profits or individuals themselves).

Therefore, every government system must become a happiness-focused system; every government entity – a happiness-focused organization; and every government must be structured around the Department of Happiness.
