Each stone in the mind of a person has its own image. One stone resembles a person, the other - an animal, an egg or something else. In all cases, the stone and the image together form something new, animated. Glyptics as an action allows you to create an animate being in the form of a gem from a stone. The graphic representation of the gem is an image visible not only to those people who see the gem, but also to those who are, perhaps, far from the physical body of the gem. Thus, the image of a gem in the form of a drawing, photograph or picture on a computer monitor can be considered a graphic model of a gem.
By separating the graphic image of the stone from its physical essence, it becomes possible to control this image, creating models of gems that accurately reproduce the future appearance of the stone after appropriate processing. The use of modern digital technologies makes it possible to create such a level of image when the illusion of the reality of a physical stone arises. At the same time, it becomes possible to create products of virtual glyptics - digital models of gems, the creation of which should be attributed to digital art - digital art.
Digital technologies have different possibilities and, accordingly, different results. The results of traditional glyptics are physical bodies, the results of digital glyptics are program signs, organized in the form of files. These results have similarities, but also significant differences. Therefore, I believe that virtual and real gems cannot have a single base for comparison. Virtual gems form their own direction. The best virtual gems can later be used as sketches for making items from physical gems.
