My wild guess is that while promoting equality on the basic societal standards (for ex., gender, LBGT, minorities, racial etc.) the society faces nearly automatically the same kind of demand on the electoral results, where “win or lose” techniques, especially on a narrow margin seem to be totally outdated by the overall progress of the multicultural strata of the civil components and modern technology networks.
The same pattern goes for the countries’ interrelationships as well, btw. The problem with democracy is that it presents itself as an ideology
