Milan and Milena 1

A tale for Habib (from novel WANDERER)

Once upon a time in one kingdom there lived a rich man. He was kind and good and his wife was the same, but all their kids somehow died in early age.

And once there was born a boy in the family, so good, so handsome that he was named Milan (that sounds like honey, sweet, nice). When he was born, there were three wonderful signs: a beautiful rainbow appeared right above the house of the man, the nearby rooster cried out at once, and wondrous flower of unprecedented beauty blossomed in the garden.

All people around were amazed and thought and wondered what that means, but one old wise woman explained: rainbow means that good luck and glory will accompany him in all things; cocks’ cry means that he will be famous around the world, and wonderful flower means he will meet amazing perfect Love.

Once, when he was about six, Milan suddenly fell ill so hard that it seemed he was going to die. He had a fewer and kept repeating: a white girl, a white girl ... Mother thought it was Death who came for him and frightened even more. But he said that because he saw a very beautiful white girl with blue eyes, which went to him on the water. And no one knew, nor thought that in that very moment in one far away north country there was born a baby-girl so good, nice and cute that she was named Milena.
