Is it possible to get rid of the internet in the same way as I abandoned video games? On one hand, there is too much information of the highest quality; on the other, it distracts my attention making it scattering in many different ways. I’ve been learning lots of things during the last few years that can’t be considered futile only because of their relation to English. Everything that was able to evoke my curiosity helped me to move forward. In some sense I became addicted to new content, and even if this content has nothing to do with making me (in a broad perspective) better—I still continue clutter my mind with it. Perhaps I have to do a sort of rebooting—revaluate my values.
Why do I learn English?
1. I’m seeking wisdom and one of my goals is finding and understanding deepest thoughts which the language gave rise to.
2. I’m studying the best human beings, so I need to figure out what constitutes ‘the best’ according to the English version.
3. I’m studying epistemology and want to compare different languages to see if there is a big difference between thinking in one language or another.
4. I want to understand how much bilingual people differ from those who use only one language.
5. I want to observe the development of English through reading its best thinkers to see how this language has become so powerful.
6. I want to have an instant access to everything significant that may be produced in cognitive fields in the future.
Well, I guess if there was a little more place on the page I would add something else, but for now it’s enough.
