Destiny

She was sitting in the subway and listening to music. At the same time she was tapping the beat with her fingers. Depending on the music it could be just a gentle touch of her leg or tapping. One could tell that she really like the music.
After some time she noticed that the guy sitting next to her was looking at her hand. From time to time he was licking his lips. She felt a little uncomfortable and decided to stop what she was doing. Soon the guy stood up and before leaving the metro carriage handed he a piece of paper. While he was going out he looked back and smiled. My God! What a smile! She almost fell in love with that smile. When the doors closed she looked inside the paper and saw that there was a phone number and it was written “Call me”.
He looked really nice. He was well-dressed, good looking and there was something mysterious about him. At the same time she thought that he was a bit shy. If he hadn’t been so, he would have talked to her. But he decided to leave everything to her. It was up to her to choose if he wanted to see him as he was definitely interested.
Emma loved working. Most of her life was about work. She had a nice job, colleagues respected and loved her but when it came to relationships she would always get lost and didn’t know what to do. She had several boyfriends but everything ended very quickly. She couldn’t or wouldn’t trust them and that led to finally break up. She was the one to end all. Sometimes she felt lonely in the evenings when she sat alone at home and didn’t know what to do. At the same time she was a communicative person so she was always surrounded by people. Being among people doesn’t really mean being with someone. You can be surrounded by people that you love and still feel lonely. It made her feel empty and incomplete.
She thought that the guy could bring something fresh into her life. Should she take a chance and call him? Maybe she should forget about him. When she was going out of the metro carriage someone pushed her and she dropped the paper as she was holding it in her hand. At that very moment the doors closed and the train left the station. So she lost the paper and the chance to find out if anything could have been between them.
After that day she looked at the people in the subway hoping that he would appear there and she could tell him the story. Time passed and she even forgot about him continued living her ordinary life.
Soon she got a promotion and moved to another city. It was really exciting as she started her life at a place where nobody knew her. She could be anybody and do whatever she wanted.
She decided that something should have changed in her life. She wanted something more from life than a successful job. She wanted a family, a person that she could trust. Where could she meet men? She could go to a bar and try her luck there. There was one problem though, she didn’t drink alcohol. She could go to a gym and try to find someone there. But again, it was too banal, wasn’t it? Some of her colleagues offered her to register on dating sites but she wasn’t sure it was her thing. So what could she do?
The next day when she came to work, she saw an advertisement about speed dating on the notice board. She looked at it for some time and decided that she would try.  It would be in three days so she called the number on the flyer and registered for the event. She was excited and scared at the same time. She didn’t know what to wear. Should she look sexy or ordinary? Should she wear high-heels or just be herself? It was decided she wasn’t going to do anything extraordinary as she didn’t want to be someone that she was not.
The day came. She was really nervous. She couldn’t understand why. If she didn’t like the whole thing she could just leave the place and forget about it. At least she would try. Nobody would force her to do something that she didn’t want.
When she got dressed she thought that she looked nice. She took her bag and left the apartment. She went there by taxi as she was new to the city and could easily get lost or be late because of the transport and traffic.
When the taxi stopped she saw a very nice building. She always loved architecture and could spend hours looking at buildings around her. Now it wasn’t time for that. She should hurry.
The atmosphere inside was really nice and relaxing. The lights were dimmed. There was music playing in the background. There were only a few minutes left till the beginning. The host started to speak. She explained the rules and everything started.
The beginning wasn’t that exciting. The guys were either boring or asking strange questions. She was already going to give up when something unexpected happened. When the bell rang and they switched places she saw him, the guy from the subway. He was sitting there. She wasn’t sure that he would remember her. Several years passed from that day. She looked at him a bit puzzled and didn’t know what to do. Her knees began shaking. He started to speak. He looked at her and smiled. Oh! That smile! She felt like the room was spinning around. He understood that something was wrong. She was too nervous. She thought that she was about to faint. He took her hand and said that everything was ok. She shouldn’t worry. He was really surprised to see her. He thought that he would never see her again. She couldn’t understand why she was so nervous. She didn’t know the guy. She couldn’t speak. She saw him only once several years ago. He gave her his phone number and didn’t even speak to her. That was it. What was going on with her? He continued to speak but the bell rang and they were to change the seat. Emma couldn’t do it. She felt dizzy and ran out of the place. He followed her. She nearly fell while leaving the place. She needed air. She couldn’t breathe.
He approached her. She was still shaking. He looked at her. She had never seen anyone looking at her like that. Those eyes were telling her that she shouldn’t be afraid, shouldn’t run and shouldn’t face the world alone. Not anymore.  He kissed her and the moment it happened she knew he was the one. The one that she was waiting for all of her life. He wasn’t shy after all. Tears ran down her face. He looked and told her that he fell in love with her the moment he looked at her in the subway. He could see how strong and independent she was. Even her nervousness and tears couldn’t hide it. That didn’t scare him. He wanted to be the man she could lean on and do everything on her own. How did he know what to say to calm her down? How did he do it? He hadn’t even heard her voice. She didn’t know his name. What was going on?
There was only one question he wanted to ask. Why didn’t she call him? She looked at him and finally started to speak. She said that she would prefer to sit somewhere and talk but not do it in the middle of the street. So they did.
They went to the nearest caf; and she told him the story. Then she told about the promotion and moving to another city. One thing she couldn’t understand. Why was he there?
As it appeared he was on a business trip that day when he saw her in the subway. He didn’t know what to do as he was in a hurry so he hoped that she would call and they could speak and meet. As she didn’t call he came back home and tried to forget her but it wasn’t easy.
She smiled and said that she wanted to ask him something. She still didn’t know his name and would like to know it. They both laughed and he said that he was Leo.
They sat in that caf; till its closing and chatted about lots of things. Since that day they were inseparable. Emma was very happy. She was with someone that changed her life upside down. Leo made her the happiest woman in the world.
