To revive the antique mystery as a form of performance at the Underground Karadag Theatre I faced a necessity to create a proper choreography in it i.e. Cimmerian dances.
Cimmerian dances represent the only trend in choreography developing and creating the whole plot based on the rules of the antique mystery.
It is difficult to restore the exterior of an antique dance. Strange as it may seem, but the waltz which came to us from aristocratic balls matches the idea of the antique mystery best of all.
In this form of a dance the main principle of antiquity, wholeness, harmony and proportionality is observed: this is a stem around which the plot, the vocal and the playwrighting is set up and developed.
Moreover, some technical details have been improved and restored, including the use of fans, the moments of inertia, continuous round turning.
Other dance trends such as Latin American, oriental dances and classical ballet are harmonically combined with Viennese waltz.
The name Cimmerian was taken from Maximilian Voloshyn’s cultural heritage.
