Dr Brooks heads up Public Health England's work on rare and imported pathogens at Porton Down in Salisbury.Once the laboratories in Sierra Leone were up and running, they were used by some 400 volunteers to test for the Ebola virus.
"I'm incredibly proud of all that they did.I do feel for my team who stayed behind [in the UK] because without them I could have done nothing. They need some recognition too."
The Ebola outbreak in west Africa was first reported in March 2014 and since then 11,315 people in six countries; Liberia, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, the US and Mali, have been reported as having died from the disease.
The total number of reported cases is believed to be nearly 28,650.
A leading scientist from Wiltshire has been honoured by the Queen for helping combat the Ebola virus in west Africa.Dr Tim Brooks, who set up three laboratories in Sierra Leone for virus testing, has been made a CBE for services to public health.He said he was "absolutely staggered" to be recognised for his work.

The 33-year-old, who is currently on holiday in central America, ran the Ebola command centre in Sierra Leone's capital, Freetown, which helped to control and ultimately end the outbreak of the deadly disease last year.
Victoria's mother, Christine Treanor, who works as a PA to the Bishop of Bath and Wells, said: "I'm absolutely amazed and delighted for her.

"She never went to Sierra Leone with anything like that in mind, at all.
Victoria moved there in July 2013 to work as a private sector consultant with the Africa Governance Initiative AGI).After Ebola broke out, her role within the Africa Governance Initiative changed, and she began working full-time on the disease response alongside the government and other international partners.
The joint effort successfully brought the outbreak under control and then, in November 2015, to an end.
Before learning her name was among those on the New Year Honours List, Victoria had already received two awards for her work during the Ebola crisis.
She received an Ebola medal from the UK government, and was one of four AGI staff who received medals for outstanding service from the government of Sierra Leone just before Christmas.
Christine said: "As a family, we are completely thrilled for her. We've been completely bowled over by the whole thing."
After graduating from the University of Bath in 2004, Victoria worked as a consultant before joining Prosperity Initiative, an international NGO, in 2010.
She was posted to Hanoi in Vietnam to help indigenous people improve their use of natural resources before moving to Sierra Leone in July 2013.
Victoria, who was born in Leicester and is the youngest of three sisters, was unavailable for comment.

Christopher Bulstrode has spent his life travelling where the world has needed him.
For the past 30 years, the University of Oxford professor has occupied himself rushing to the aid of countries, and people, in crisis. Now, two years after Southland Hospital's Emergency Department became an accredited training ground, he has elected to take a four- month-long summer secondment in Invercargill.

Dr Michael Jacobs from the Royal Free London, where Will Pooley and Pauline Cafferkey were treated, among those to receive honours.

Jacobs worked closely with doctors in the Emory hospital, Dallas, where US victims were treated and with specialists in Spain, Germany and Italy, sharing information on experimental treatments.
"This has been a devastating two years for Ebola-affected countries in west Africa," said Jacobs. "The patients who we cared for at the Royal Free London exemplify the extraordinary courage and humanity of everyone who went to west Africa to help with the international aid effort.

The UK, which led the international response to the Ebola crisis, sent 150 staff from Public Health England (PHE), to Sierra Leone to run three new laboratories there. Four of them were awarded honours. Around 250 staff from the Department for International Development (DfId), more than 1,5000 military personal and 150 NHS volunteers were also involved in the UK’s response.
Tim Brooks, head of PHE’s rare and imported pathogens laboratory (Ripl), responsible for establishing the state-of-the-art diagnostic laboratories in Sierra Leone, is awarded a CBE. The labs established by the ex-army doctor were credited with saving many lives and helping to control the epidemic, which swept Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia.
