Christmas Dreams ThatCome True

                Part 1
Sasha was standing near metro Station “Levoberezhnaya”. She was going home. She was waiting for her bus 46. She was happy as she had passed her exam (annual balance report). The weather was changing. It was going to snow. It was chilly and windy outdoors. There was no Christmas spirit yet, though it was the end of December.
Suddenly a young man dressed in a purple uniform came up to her. He gave her a big bunch of long pink roses. He said it was a gift  from his company. He said there was a business card of the company inside the bunch. There was some invitation, too, he said. He turned round and went away. Sasha said ‘thank you’ when the man had already left. She was more than puzzled.

It was snowing harder, so she decided to take a taxi, so as not to damage her roses. She did not want to damage such a nice refined bunch.
She waved with  her hand and a taxi-driver opened the door. She noticed a tall handsome man. She was going to take a seat in the car when suddenly she heard a nice “velvet” voice of than man. The tember was polite and showed him to be a cultured educated man. He said: “Could I share the taxi with you if you go straight ?”- She thought there was a slight foreign accent in his speech. The stranger was in his late 20-s or early 30-s. He was good-looking, well-dressed and well-shaved. She could smell his nice expensive perfume. She replied:”Of course you can”. They nicely talked while sitting side-by-side at the back seat of the cab. He said compliments to Sasha’s looks. His name was David and he said he was a businessman. He was arranging some contests in show business in Kiev. He needed good-looking girls to be his  assistants. They did not notice the moment when it was time for him to go out. He left taxi near metro ”Darnitsa”. He gave her his business card and asked her to call him if she might need his protection or help. She heartily thanked David. She was very pleased to meet such a nice gentleman. As she came home she felt she was tired and so she went straight to bed. Before falling asleep she remembered about her roses. They needed water!
                Part 2
She rushed to the bathroom and filled the bath with cold water. She took off the cover paper from her lovely roses … and an envelope fell out of the bunch.
The letter said:

Ms Alexandra *** from Kiev,
“Dear Madam,

We have honour to greet you: you have won our beauty photo-contest ‘Miss World Summer-2000’ hold by the journal ‘ Vogue’.
You are awarded with the first prize. You will get it immediately. On behalf of the owner of the Journal,  our manger  of the contest, Mr. David Cornfield,  would like to invite you to a special Christmas Breakfast, Restaurant “European”, December 25, 2000, at 11 a.m. Our driver will pick you up at 10 . 30 a.m. We will send you a dress for cocktails from our collection, if you don’t mind.

Sincerely yours,
Editor-in-Chief
Walter Goldman.”

A nice blue business card of David Cornfield, fell down to her feet. Ah, David, here are you, the nice stranger!

Sasha was more than startled. Suddenly she remembered that day in August when she said good-bye to her boy-friend. Well, actually he  first said ‘good bye’ to her. He found a new date, older and more experienced than Sasha was. Well, O.K. then!!! She will not cry… at least here in Kreschatik Street. Maybe she will do it later, at home, to her Mom ..or just to her pillow. But that will be later when nobody could see her.

She was terribly sad, and her heart was bleeding with invisible blood... but she kept smiling- not to let him feel she  is dying of unhappy love! She knew she was only 17, and she was pretty, and young, and kind... She knew she was good, and faithful, and nice to Max. She knew she was not guilty of anything to him.
Max wanted ...more and she knew she was only 17. She didn’t want it so soon. She wanted to know some more of him… What was wrong about that? Nothing, she replied to herself, and bought a bunch of her best flowers for herself.
So she was sitting at the edge of the working fountain at Maidan and smelling wonderful bunch of bright-blue cornflowers. They were exactly as blue as her eyes , with some velvet violet touch in it. She knew her self-made open summer dress was lovely and suited her and her long ‘linen’ hair. There were white daisies on the light green field, and she though she was happy. Even without Max.
                Part 3.
Suddenly a camera man came up to her and asked her for a permission to make a picture.
She didn’t care, so he did and gave her his telephone number to check if the picture is nice and if she wanted to get them. “Free for you, nice lady”, he said. But she lost the telephone number.

However, that day was lucky to her. She entered university (though by correspondence, it was O.K !). And, she suddenly got a job at Mc Donalds! It was a very good luck! She had only mother, and she was not getting younger.
Of course Sasha totally forgot and that shot and possible photograph of hers. She wanted to forget Max forever, and that that her sitting at the fountain with cornflowers in her hands, all along.
She could not believe she won that photo-contest. But that seemed to be true! The roses were real, lying at the bottom of her bath pressed with the shower tube, to get more water. The letter, and David’s business card , all were real!
She looked at her watch. Oops, it was 9 p.m., December 24. High time to go to bed if she wanted to look nice tomorrow.
What a pity Mother was away for Christmas! There was nobody in the world to share her joy and …
Sasha fell asleep as soon as her head touched the pillow.
                Part 4.
It was a sunny morning. Her alarm-clock was ringing, and she  pushed it up. But it went on ringing. She realized it was the door bell. She rushed to the door and opend it. There was the yesterday’s boy in a purple uniform.
- Sasha, ready? It, already 10 o’clock I brought the dress and… just a minute. Aha? here is it. He gave her the Vogue’s issue where she was The Cover Girl- Miss World Summer-2000. Corn-flower eyes, gold-linen hair, daisy dress… Yes, it was she, Sasha *** from Kiev. She could not believe her eyes. But that seemed to be true.
-My name is Denis, - said the Purple guy. –I am Mr. Cornfield’s driver and secretary. He told me to come at 10, to give you time to dress up. I can wait in the car.
- No, Denis, I will make you some coffee, please stay with me, here, in the kitchen or watch TV.
Dennis laughed.
-You are afraid I will disappear? No, I won’t. but I have to go, Sasha. I have to get your present. It will be delivered in a moment. Look downstairs from your kitchen balcony in 3 minutes, O.K.?
In 3 minutes she looked downstairs and her head went down. It was a new blue ‘AUDI’
David and Dennis were standing by smiling and waving hands.
It’s yours, - shouted Dennis. He sat down at the wheel and gave her the signal.
It was melodic and long. It sounded on and on and on. It didn’t stop.
At last Sasha realized what it was. It was her…
...alarm clock.

                Part 5

She jumped up, rushed to the kitchen and looked downstairs. Nothing. In the bathroom: nothing. She looked at the calendar. It was only December 24. All she had seen was only a beautiful Christmas dream. And now she had to take her credit
in book keeping . She knew her question  will be annual balance report.
She was very disappointed, but … suddenly she decided to call that August photographer. She quickly found the telephone number and wanted to dial it. Suddenly the telephone rang up. The man’s voice asked Sasha.
-I hope you remember me, nice lady, - he said. - I will tell you something great. Please prepare yourself. I am not kidding, that is true. There is a British gentleman sitting in my lab. He says he wants to see you. He is from ‘Vogue’. He enjoyed you picture with cornflowers and wants your permission to … O.K. he wants to talk to you.
- Is his name… David Cornfield?
- Yes, but how do you know?
- It was only my Christmas dream, - she whispered.
- Hi, Sasha, - said David and she recognized his voice, good Russian with a slight English accent.  It was the man from her night dream.
-     I will pick you up in half an hour,- he said. - Do you want me to drive  MY or YOUR car? Would a cornflower- blue AUDI do?
- Have we ever met before, David? Why do I know you?
- You served me so many a time in Mc Donalds and you don’t remember me? My name- you could have seen it in the ‘Vogue’ or... We will discuss it in the restaurant, OK? Which colour do you prefer to wear today?
Sasha was embarrassed and could not answer.
-O.K. Don’t answer. I know it as I can read your thoughts. I bet I am right.? you will check it in a moment. Will you be ready?
- David, I know it was only a night dream. I know you don’t exist. I am dreaming  already at daytime. It is too much even to me.
-I will be in no time, please wait and than you will tell me if I exist. By the way, I am talking from your car. I am already near Levoberezhnaya. It goes fast and smooth, good girl.
- Talk to me, David or I will … die of disappointment if you disappear again.
- Again? I have not appeared yet, Sasha, but in 5 minutes I will.
- How did you found me, David?
-     Oh, it is a long story. But anyway I want to apologize. I have already made you a ‘cover girl’. You are our “Miss World Summer-2000”.
-      I was looking for you everywhere, but I could not find you. It was only yesterday that  I recognized you in Mc Donalds. Eventually I was given you telephone number- along with an excellent reference from your boss .

The  Audi’s signal rang, and she came out to the balcony.
It was no dream.  It was just a Christmas miracle that came true.

                The end.
