The rooster and a pearl

Алекс Дайхес
THE ROOSTER AND A PEARL

(Fable)

The Rooster, rummaging a pile of litter,
Gave to a heavy lump a mighty hurl,
Spotting inside a funny queer glitter,
And found (would you guess!) a shiny pearl.

Before the hens stepping ahead,
His little shaking cocky head,
He said in homily disdain,

“I would prefer a fatty wheaten grain
To this unprofitable thing instead.
The stupid people have no brain
To value high what gives no gain,”
I have to add.

***

The ignorant indeed walk same exactly path.
When seeing a thing they don’t get,
(To cover impotent and hopeless wrath)
They call it useless, wrong and bad.
