A letter to an American friend - òðèäöàòèìèíóòêà

Òîìà Ìåäîâà
I think you should visit Sweden two times: one week in the early spring and three weeks in summer.
In February and March it is great to enjoy skiing in the mountains and you can visit an Ice-hotel too. The Ice-hotel is like a museum that changes every year.
In the summer there is much more to see if you like the nature. I recommend visiting Stora Sjofallet national park – it’s a wild territory of mountains and waterfalls. You can meet some wild animals there – reindeer, foxes, grouses and others. The water in the lakes is so clean that you can just drink it without boiling.
In Stockholm you can see the Vasa-museum. You can order an exciting excursion into the old ship Vasa. The wreck lay under water 333 years before scientists got it up. The museum was built especially for the original wreck.
What about clothes – in summer you should have a sweater, cover trousers and a parka, if you want to come to the national park. You will need comfortable shoes, of course. For Stockholm it’s enough with just the usual summer clothes and a windbreaker. At winter you’ll need really warm clothes. You can count for -25 C or more.
To tell about other Scandinavian countries – I would advise you to visit Norway in the summer. It’s a different landscape there with fjords and lakes; there are no fjords in Sweden, I have to say.
Then you want to know more about Sweden, but I don’t know much either. I know it was governed by socialists for a long and at the same time Sweden is a kingdom. It’s pretty expensive, but Norway – Norway is more expensive than Sweden. Well, I don’t know what is “expensive” for Americans. I can say Turkey and Spain are cheap to us who work in Sweden.
At the end, I think you should bring a Dala horse with you from Sweden. It’s an amazing handmade toy. Have a nice holiday!

Best wishes,
Toma
