С ВИДОМ НА МОРЕ (отрывок)
Когда так много позади
всего, в особенности -- горя,
поддержки чьей-нибудь не жди,
сядь в поезд, высадись у моря.
Оно обширнее. Оно
и глубже. Это превосходство --
не слишком радостное. Но
уж если чувствовать сиротство,
то лучше в тех местах, чей вид
волнует, нежели язвит.
WITH A VIEW ON THE SEA (a fragment)
When all is grief, when you feel alone,
shake off your gruesome reverie –
Don't seek support, just leave your home
and take the train. Go to the sea,
to its deep and infinite terrain –
perhaps it won't relieve the pain,
but wait till like a pebble tossed
in the comparison it will be lost.
For solitude befits a place
which piques you not and is full of grace.
