Synopsis
Events are taking place in America beginning in the 1980's. Liz and Ben O’Neil live on a farm in a small town in Texas. Ben is veterinarian, Liz is a nurse, and they don't have children and so when they learned of their nephews (Shane seven years old and Donnie four years old) is in the shelter, and then agreed to take them to him. The boys were in the orphanage because their father Jack O’Neil, Ben’s brother, was an alcoholic, he was poorly abusive to the boys, often beat them, and at one point being heavily drunk even shooting at them with his guns. He shot Shane, the boy lost his leg and he had to learn to walk on the prosthesis.
When Liz and Ben came to the children in the orphanage, the boys they are not even pleased, by the fact because after that what they have to survive, they were afraid and did not trust adults. Despite this, they have agreed to go with O'Neill to live on their farm.
For the year Shane and Donnie conducted in the house of his uncle, they quickly attach and liked Liz and Ben for their care and a good attitude towards them.
Liz kind and appreciative woman, she helps all those in need, especially frequently visits Blake’s family, bringing them food and medicine.
Blake lives in an old wooden house on the outskirts of the city. In their family, three elderly people Mrs. Blake, who practically did not leave the house because she had sick legs, her daughter Lily (42 years), she was sick schizophrenia itself requires care and her son Rudy (5 years).
Ben tries to spend a lot of time with the boys; he often takes Shane to a trip to the local ranch. Shane likes the cowboys, he is simply in love with horses, and he recognized Ben, even in spite of his physical defect is dreaming to become a real cowboy and to participate in the rodeo. Ben promises to help him carry out his dream.
In Halloween Liz wear boys in different costumes Donnie gangsters in disguise, Rudy musician in twenties, and Shane dressed cowboy costume.
Donnie playing gangsters invent a name for their little gang «The Funny Hats».
And the same evening on gas station, in the rest room Donnie and Shane found the bag in which lay a newborn baby with no signs of life. Liz started making him artificial respiration and the child is alive.
Foundlings is a little girl, Liz and Ben decided to leave her. They adopted her, and so the family O'Neil has May.
Five years O’Neil’s family lived peacefully in harmony and love, kids grown-up and please their foster parents.
But one night changed everything. Blake's house was on fire. Ben came to them for help, but only managed to save Rudy. Ben, Mrs. Blake and her daughter Lily died in a fire.
After this tragedy, Rudy was an orphan and Liz decided to adopt him.
Eight years later.
Donnie and Rudy for eighteen years, they have to senior class, May has 14 years old.
Shane for 21 years, he has become a real cowboy and worked on the ranch Mr. Lindstoen. He is dating with his daughter Betty Sue Lindstoen she is 18 years old, and she also graduated.
Betty Sue beautiful, clever and a bit narcissistic girl, but Shane was blinded by love and do not notice this.
One evening on the doorstep of an O’Neil’s house shows up uninvited guest Jack O'Neil, the father of Shane and Donnie. He spent few years in jail for the shooting of one of his own children and after release came here to see them. Shane is very hostile when he met him; Donnie was out of his appearance, but just as Shane did not want to communicate with his father. Jack had not even tried to ask them forgiveness for his actions and the boys quickly realized that he really has not changed.
At Prom Ball Donnie came with Betty Sue and Rudy took May and Daisy.
The evening was a lot of events, which later influenced the lives of all children. Shane gave Betty Sue a ring, with the hope that she would agree to become his fiancåe, and when she graduate the college and returned to their town, they get married. Betty Sue said yes and took his ring. Between Rudy and Daisy, there is sympathy, but they are afraid to admit to each other in their feelings.
A May accidentally find out the truth about her birth, that she foundling, that where her found and that her parents do not know. The news plunged her into shock, but Donnie reassured her telling about how things were in reality. After returning home May is grateful Liz for the fact that she saved her life and became her mother.
It takes time, and Liz, May and Shane bid farewell with Donnie and Rudy, as they leave for college. And when Donnie was about to leave, May realizes that she loves him not like a brother but as a guy. She is really in love, and hoped that perhaps one day they will be together.
Behind flies four years and is already May and Daisy goes to school in a graduation class and dream of studying in college.
But Liz was not to be seen as May finished school, she suddenly dies of a heart attack. Her death was a real blow to her children, especially for May.
After finishing school May received a medical college, she wants to become a pediatrician.
Donnie is a manager in a large company. He introduces May with his new girlfriend, Chelsea (23 years); she is from New York, from a rich family. Chelsea is beautiful, sophisticated and elegant young woman. And May at the first meeting dislikes of her and is jealous of Donnie.
Rudy is a musician, in college he created his own jazz band called «Trumpeter and campaign» and after graduation he with band goes tour of clubs.
Once at the hospital May meets with the patient Andy. A guy who has brain cancer, he temporarily lost his eyesight, but it is a complicated operation, after which he should recover. At the request of Andy, May gives him a kiss for luck, but unfortunately it did`n help him and he died during surgery.
This event distress May and in the evening in a student dormitory, at a party, she was grief and for the first time in her life she is drunk and fell from the stairs.
She woke up in hospital with a plaster cast on a leg, and beside her bed was Donnie. He and Chelsea have decided to pick up May, the home of Chelsea to take care of her.
Chelsea is trying to be very friendly and wants to make friends with May, but May can not tolerate it, and she quickly realizes that if something does not make, the attitudes between Donnie and Chelsea can go far. May decided on a desperate act, she shaved a head and said Donnie that in her brain there is tumor, but is not yet known which malignant or not. She asked Donnie to doesn`t tell anybody about it and urged him to go home to the farm. Donnie leave Chelsea and with May they go to theirs native town. May is hoped that for this time she will be able to separate them forever. Rudy together with Donnie and May goes to the farm.
Upon arriving home, the guys tell Shane about the successes of Rudy that his got CD and concerts. Shane said them without boasting that he had participated in the Rodeo, and won, but he little hard and now his got a small scar on his face.
When May and Donnie sit on the porch and look at the stars in the evening sky, she realized that loves him very much and only dreaming about that, he kissed her.
The next day, May visit his friend Daisy, and learn about the news that Daisy getting married to Scott Pinchet. They all studied in school and May knows that he is geek, rough and brutal, and May was surprised that Daisy has decided to link their lives with this guy.
At the same time Shane receives a letter from Betty Sue in which she informs him that the tears of their betrothal, and returns him the ring. Shane on horseback rides in the campus to personally find out all of Betty Sue.
There he learns that she lives with another guy, but not looking at that Shane ready to forgive her all if only they were together again. But Betty Sue said that they were too different and that she doesn`t love him anymore.
With a broken heart, Shane returns home, and on the way meets Cecilia, a pregnant young girl. Shane proposes to her aid and brought to his home.
Later, the guys will learn a hard fate of this girl, that she was an orphan and lived with a stepmother, she treat her badly. Then Cecilia fallen in love with one guy and hoping that they will be together, but when he learned of her pregnancy then run away from her. While stepmother insisted that Cecilia to have an abortion, she was decided to born a child.
Cecilia ran away from the stepmother, she planned to move to her aunt in California, but she did not have enough money on the road and in this difficult moment in its way, met Shane.
Flower meadow Rudy`s favorite place, where he often sat alone under a tree and played his trumpet. There he met with Daisy, because as it turns out this is her favorite place. Daisy asked Rudy to be played at her wedding. But Rudy is confident that this idea would not like her fiance Scott, who can not tolerate Rudy and in childhood always oppress him.
Cecilia is very upset, she find out that her aunt moved to another town and don`t expect her. She understands that escaped from the stepmother was big mistake. She said May that she has to go back. But May urged her to stay in their home, at least for the time until the child is born or until it does not earn enough money to go there where she wants.
Cecilia immediately agrees, but promises to consider her proposal.
One night was the evening of the guys hanging out at a bar. There they meet Scott Pinchet, he was talking to Rudy, and demands that he refused to play at their wedding to Daisy.
And when Rudy refuses, he starts to insult him and Rudy does not stand the beats him in person, a fight broke out between them. But Scott is much stronger, and he beat Rudy, their time apart Donnie and Shane.
And the next morning Daisy comes into the O’Neil’s house to apologize for Scott, but suddenly confess Rudy that she loves him and she kisses him. Rudy also love her, but he said that they do not couple to each other, and that she will necessarily be happy, but not with him. Rudy just afraid that the illness of his mother when it can be seen with him, but he does not want to become a burden to his beloved and therefore, he decided always be alone, and never married.
Suddenly, from Cecilia started cramping, Shane and May as they can try to help her and she gives birth prematurely a boy.
But at the next morning left a note and the child Cecilia disappears without trace. May met her on the road, they talk, May tells her a story how she was born, and Cecilia admit that she just afraid that she could`t take care of the child and for her to become a good mother.
But finally she was returned to her child, Shane glad that she is back, because he was ready to become his father.
On farm comes Chelsea, May was not pleased to see her and she said Donnie, that cannot stand her.
Finally it was a wedding day Daisy and Scott Pinchet. At the ranch attracted many guests including Donnie, Chelsea, Shane and Cecilia, May and Betty Sue maids of honour. Shane is talking to Betty Sue, she said to him that parted with Larry, and that would like to resume relations with him, but Shane introduce her with Cecilia and her baby and gives Betty Sue to understand that between them all over.
During the ceremony, Daisy suddenly confesses Scott that she slept with Rudy. Scott is very angered; he insults her and left her at the altar. But not as strange is that Daisy is happy, because in reality it with Rudy was nothing she lied Scott because she knew that such a treason, he will never forgive her and not marry her.
Daisy in the wedding dress wander in flower meadow and met Rudy, he acknowledged that loves her and they kiss.
May could no longer lie Donnie and admit it, that has made-up the whole story about the disease, because she was afraid to lose him because she truly love him.
But Donnie said it that will never be, although they are not relatives, but he still considers her his sister. His words were very wounded May and she runaway in tears.
And in conversation with Chelsea Donnie understands that only one act, the feelings can say more than hundreds of beautiful words, and that Chelsea would never have made the fact that May had to prove her love. He realized that May really loves him.
Donnie came to the lake and sees that Shane’s horse walks on the shore and on the water there is May’s dress, in which she was at a wedding. He thought that she drowned into the water and rushed to her rescue. May this time standing on the shore and watched him. Seeing her Donnie sighed with relief, he was happy that she is alive. He said May, which is also very fond of her, but it is still not the kind of love, which she expects from him. Donnie gives her hope that perhaps one day their relationship will take on another leap.
The last scene.
O`Niel`s house. On the porch guys posing for a joint photo. Shane in western hat with a child in his arms, beside him Cecilia. Daisy in the wedding dress and a wreath daisies on the head by hand with Rudy he is in bowlerhat. Donnie in a white suit and panama, near him Chelsea and May in her hat.
A voice-over talks about how in the future, a destiny for each of them.

After six monthes, Cecilia and Shane got married. Later they have a daughter and named her Elizabeth. They dream of a big and friendly family, about children who are born with and which they adopt.
Rudy and Daisy went along on a tour. Rudy`s CD had a great success, went a lot of millions of copies and received several awards. Rudy himself was considered the best jazz musician of the year. But most of all, it pleased the news about that in the near future he will become a father. Donnie to leave Chelsea and found himself another job. May returned to college and finally decided to become a pediatrician. They both have a common dream to see the whole world, and get old together in the native town.
