Sallai Meridor, chairman of the Jewish Agency for Israel, is on a mission to support the Ukrainian Jewish Community at a new stage of its development and get large numbers of Ukrainian Jews to repatriate to Israel.
On January 16, Sallai Meridor met with leaders and activists of the Jewish community of Ukraine and jafi mission in Ukraine and Moldova in Kiev Galitzky synagogue to discuss the situation in the community and Ukraine and wish success to the community and jafi mission under the new president and government. "I share Yuschenko's idea that Ukrainian citizens should have not only independence of state but also freedom of individual," said Meridor.
Last year the number of repatriates from Ukraine and Moldova reduced compared to 2003 and 2002 and comprised according to Alex Katz, head of the jafi mission in Ukraine and Moldova, about three thousands.
