Everybody consideres the 8th wonder as something of material and immobile. But isn’t a man an 8th wonder. Or maybe the 1st one? Here we got lyrics from one old song, talking about the real 8th wonder that exists. Words & music were written by William J Norman & Alty Weinreb.
Remember when we went
up to Niagara Falls
You were pretty pleased but I was
not impressed at all
You thought it was so beautiful,
you said you liked the view
I didn't see a thing 'cause I was
looking at you
You're the 8th wonder of the world
So, can a place, a building be the wonder? Does it keep so much secrets inside? No, surely no. Niagara falls are, as sure, very beauteful and impressive, but it can only produce the electricity and attract tourists. But the girl… She was “pretty pleased” and it makes us thinking that she was a “pretty girl”, blonde, maybe, with correct facelines, two beauteful eyes and a well shaped figure. But we also think about her caracter, also “pretty one”. The girl who meets only one boy at time, who doesn’t use druggs, neither dinks too much. The girl who makes her studies somewhere and dreams of something. Where she makes her studies? In the University, maybe, maybe in some high school or college. What is she dreaming of, you ask? Love, family, kids, maybe of some social position, or she dreams to see her son or daughter beeing Nobel laureate.
We went to the Wailing Wall
And you were pretty pleased
I didn't feel like praying at all
but I was on my knees
Wailing Wall is the symbol of hope. Most people come there to ask God something, or just to see it. Why does the author needs the Wall here? Maybe the boy is dreaming of her, and hopes always be together. Or, they’re asking God to make them just happy…
And then we saw the Pyramids
You said you liked them too
You asked how they were built but I don't care
'cause they're not built like you
You're the 8th wonder of the world
Pyramids are possibly the biggest secret of building and engeneering on the planet. Nobody can tell exactly, were they made of stones, or of something else. Anyway, the secret is kept. What is the man made of? Nervs, legs, hands, head? Or maybe he’s a product of love, and he’s made of feelings? Or maybe of thinkings, hopes, souvenirs and regrets? We have it all, and nobody knows what’s the biggest part of us. For someone, only feelings cost. The second one lives in his hopes. The academician is full of thinkings… We’re all different, like pyramids. Maybe they’re built each from different material too?
I've traveled all around the world
I've seen everything
I've danced with Queens and Kings
Been deep sea diving and I kissed the Pope's ring
I climbed up a mountain
To ask the man what life's about an'
He said, "I should ask you –
I've seen that chick you're goin' out with"
You're the 8th wonder of the world
So, as we see, no one building or antropology factor could be a real wonder. The wonder that the secret will be always kept. And the question you don’t want an answer.
